I had the pleasure of swapping with Shez of <a href="http://shez-enjoyinglife.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Enjoying Life</a>. And for the first time ever, it was a swap with someone I'd actually been blessed with meeting face to face - what fun that was Shez!! (Psssttt .... Can't wait to see you again in March!!!)</div>

Though I seemed to have forgotten to take a photo of the items I sent to Shez, she shared a photo of them on FB and her blog, so I thought I'd borrow one with everything in it to share here ...<br />

<li>A bag which combined an extended version of the 'Tis The Season' bag with one of <a href="http://www.elefantz.com/2014/10/day-1-holiday-hostess-table-topper.html" target="_blank">Jenny Reynold's free stitchery patterns</a>; </li>
<li>A gorgeously soft cream scarf using a new-to-me stitch 'broomstick lace' (pattern link can be found <a href="http://www.supermomnocape.com/2012/12/01/broomstick-lace-scarf-instructions/" target="_blank">HERE</a>); </li>
<li>A necklace made with blue river stones (I believe ... can't quite remember, it was so long ago I bought them); </li>
<li>Some gorgeous 'French lavendar' scented soap made by one of my favourite handmade soap makers up here in Darwin 'Sari soap' (she's online <a href="http://www.sarisoap.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=54_66" target="_blank">HERE</a>);</li>
<li>A set of two darling little doilies (pattern found in an old 1980s crochet magazine I was lovingly gifted by one of my old music teachers recently; and</li>
<li>A couple of lovely thick (I have two layers between the fabric sandwich - one of <a href="http://www.warmcompany.com/ibpage.html" target="_blank">heat resistant Insul-Bright </a> and one of a normal quilt batting) pot holders. The first uses a paper pieced (my first) Circle of Geese quilt block (I can't remember where I downloaded my pattern from but you can find a pattern <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/other/circle-of-geese-paper-pieced-quilt-block/37735" target="_blank">HERE</a> on the Craftsy platform). The second was a Snowman block, minus his arms, eyes and buttons, for which I followed Lori Holt's directions, shared on <a href="http://instagram.com/beelori1/" target="_blank">her IG account </a> (directions began from <a href="http://instagram.com/p/wEdbAKMM5Y/?modal=true" target="_blank">this post</a>).</li>
<li>The sweeties you must always have (in my opinion, lol) in a swap - this time, malteasers and a large candy cane).</li>
<li>And I wrapped the gifties (apart from the bag) in fat quarters of Shez's favourite Christmas fabric range by Annela Hoey, Cherry Christmas ... so 5 FQs with ribbon & ric rac to secure.</li>
</ul>
I've participated in this swap the past two (I think) years and enjoyed putting together the presents immensely ... though I must admit that my studies (I've been doing a Cert III in Education support which I should complete in April ... potentially followed by a Cert IV) got in the way of getting this swap together early enough to send on the appointed day. Thankfully I managed to get it in the post and it arrived the day before unwrapping so phew!! BOY did the Lord answer my heartfelt prayers that week!!!!!!! ... I do so hope I will be able to participate again this year - it is such a fun swap to be a part of!!Larissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06366510866652989740noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866921873972527586.post-73963601110276236852014-04-05T21:46:00.001+09:302014-04-05T21:46:58.371+09:30Thought I'd gotten lost, eh?! *wink*I apologise for my lack of posting over the last few *ahem* months. They've been a bit hard, a bit frustrating, and gone VERY quickly!!! It's hard to get my head around the fact that it's already the beginning of April!! Seriously!! Where has time gone?!!!<br />
<br />
I have been joining in with Friday Night with Friends with <a href="http://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.com.au/">Cheryll</a>, and Friday Night Sew In with <a href="http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com.au/p/friday-night-sew-in-fnsi.html">Wendy</a> ... I've just been lazy about blogging about it - saw-ry!!!<br />
<br />
This last week I've been working on my first ever doily, and on Friday night I finished the final row. The design is one from the booklet <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Masterpiece-Doilies-Patricia-Kristoffersen/dp/B0053KZF66">"Masterpiece Doilies"</a> (1997, Leisure Arts Inc.) by Patricia Kristoffersen, that my mother has had sitting in her draw for all these years *grin*. I've often flicked through it and thought that I really should give one of these designs a go, but it wasn't until late last week that I decided to finally give it a go. It seems I crochet quite tight, so of this design I decided to go with a thicker thread, and a bigger needle. It's come out just over 1in larger than the book indicates, but after giving it a nice steam with my new Oliso Pro iron (LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!), it has turned out really quite lovely!!<br />
<br />

Before I tackled the doily though, I made the two crocheted crosses below (plus another with tails & tassels on both ends) a go. This design is by Lyubava Crochet on Craftsy - you can find the pattern <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/crocheting/home-decor/crochet-cross-bookmark-tutorial-/51995">HERE</a>. I've added the smaller to my keys, though the larger one isn't quite big enough to use as a bookmark - my books are too tall for this beauty.<br />

Another recent finish was this gorgeous shopping companion, designed by Marilyn Duncan, the pattern for which we received at the Lets Get Stitched retreat in Melbourne last month. It's hard to believe that this time last month we were all getting ready to head down for this fabulous long holiday!! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I will try to make an effort to post some more updates on the projects I've been working on over the last 5 or so months, though most everything was shared in <a href="http://instagram.com/craftygodchick">my instagram feed</a>. Also, if I've been quiet with regards to commenting on your blogs these past few months, it's been because I really haven't gotten on as much as I used to - I realised that following my blogs was taking up SOOO much of my time, so now I'm giving myself a small window of time to read - and so I'm often just reading, rather than commenting unless I feel an intense urge. I am hoping to catch up, but it may take me some time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And for now, I must leave :) ... I've started another doily from the same book, and I'd like to get a few more rows on it before my need for sleep overtakes my concentration (was up quite late last night, then quite early this morning). </div>

I was working on this block, little by little over the course of last week, since finishing off <a href="http://craftygodchick.blogspot.com.au/2013/09/22-down-2-to-go.html">my 'sewing' block</a>. For some reason I enjoyed the needleturn over the stitchery this time, lol, which felt like it was taking forever *wink* ... especially all that hair!!! *giggle*<br />
<br />
I've drawn up some ideas for my last block, but not quite decided yet. I'm thinking I'll either go with my original choice of wine & cheeses, or my new option: gymnastics (I did it for eleven years from a young age, coached littlies for several years, and now my daugther has been going for over 3 years!! I LOVE watching it, and often find myself scrutinising the gymnasts as a judge would, lol!).<br />
<br />
I'm going to give myself a couple of days to mull over the ideas, and start on the cutting for a pieced quilt for my bed I've been wanting to make for a couple of years while I decide ... I also have WIPs, UFOs and USOs (Un-Started Objects *wink*) to sort through and organise, amongst other things this week. <br />
<br />
Have a crafty kinda week xx<br />

If I could sleep 12 hours a day or more without feeling guilty, I would ...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anywhoo ...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Friday afternoon was spent doing more organising of my fabric & craft organising. I was lucky enough to win some vouchers for Bunnings a few months back, and earlier in the week I went to purchase a large cupboard to help me store and organise my sewing accoutrements. It's been fun going through my things, but also frustrating - as much as I have, there is so much I feel like I need to get it just right *wink* ... I still have quite a bit to go through and organise, so I'll show pics once I've got it done :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Late Friday evening I got started on my sewing project for the evening. The <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern/">"Buttercup Bag", designed by Made-by-Rae designs</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had a birthday party to go to on Saturday for one of the little girls in Miss 5's class and so we went to Spotlight and these were the fabrics & buttons she chose. Such a good combination if I do say so myself *grin*. We've also picked out some fabrics for a bag for her - another fabulous combination I'll show later in the week once it's been put together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I totally recommend this pattern for anyone interested in making themselves, or someone else, a nice little bag. It was easy to follow, the pattern pieces were simple, and I can totally see myself making quite a few more of these - both for myself and as gifts for others.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once again, it was wonderful knowing there were other like-minded sewers around the country and globe, all sewing 'together'! And thankyou to Cheryll for once again hosting this fabulous monthly get-together!! I may not report in every month/fortnight/week, but I do enjoy knowing there are others out there just as enamoured with needle and thread as I am!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Enjoy a quilty kinda week!! xx</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For the thread on the spools, I actually used thread, lol, satin-stitched over the spool. Thought it gave it a nice touch!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Well now, it's almost 11pm, so I'm off to prep up my next block đ ... I'm aiming to have them all finished by the end of next week so I can spend the weekend putting it all together!!</div>

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of it Friday night, but here it was on Saturday while watching 'Anne of Green Gables' and working on needle-turning those elements ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUQqYEW6xZ6OllzO-Pg8MN2r5jW0h-wwP7_04wLFcCogG7lCuDgDzLM8y8nPWbwydxnSLnlpsXaOifU2ETeEd7MIDjJI0tqmNoqDzbwAhutFa2dzFmx0X5rW9L9MvYzGMsW-CR4ckK5GTP/s640/blogger-image-72954610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUQqYEW6xZ6OllzO-Pg8MN2r5jW0h-wwP7_04wLFcCogG7lCuDgDzLM8y8nPWbwydxnSLnlpsXaOifU2ETeEd7MIDjJI0tqmNoqDzbwAhutFa2dzFmx0X5rW9L9MvYzGMsW-CR4ckK5GTP/s640/blogger-image-72954610.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I continued working on this yesterday and I am now almost ready to put together the pieces blocks that get sewn on the bottom of this block đ. I am hoping to have it finished by tomorrow night, ready to get onto the 'best friends' block next.</div>

<br />
First up, the SKoW bag and needle-book that I showed <a href="http://craftygodchick.blogspot.com.au/2013/09/friends-swap.html">here</a>, given to Melody as part of my F.R.I.E.N.D.S. swap ...<span style="text-align: center;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1bka53WdSRXJxxvOKVhZXjp6t-uUIR8jZAEKKymLjQ1ROYyo4cWFRiggzZFBVSkar7iaX3C9GqPjNfNf04C_hMw6y0_v0VfOnWPmTh_fmj6a5ZYITt_XupvfxaaiOignQJl_lBbJIH5S4/s1600/Untitled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1bka53WdSRXJxxvOKVhZXjp6t-uUIR8jZAEKKymLjQ1ROYyo4cWFRiggzZFBVSkar7iaX3C9GqPjNfNf04C_hMw6y0_v0VfOnWPmTh_fmj6a5ZYITt_XupvfxaaiOignQJl_lBbJIH5S4/s200/Untitled.jpg" width="194" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4LSxxLo9J2FBOrfVpekzFySaQDtiFuAZNQkfO9pabudnO-l40_MaiXfOwW929x_wcVxvLEnd-K0O_Lu-GH0awSxZaL1pfRYVAPozIQWxAPDGtNg8OQNSkcIDjgbzshPkc4KQMpIckR5z0/s1600/Untitled.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4LSxxLo9J2FBOrfVpekzFySaQDtiFuAZNQkfO9pabudnO-l40_MaiXfOwW929x_wcVxvLEnd-K0O_Lu-GH0awSxZaL1pfRYVAPozIQWxAPDGtNg8OQNSkcIDjgbzshPkc4KQMpIckR5z0/s200/Untitled.jpg" width="194" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have also been able to get another block done of my quilt, the rainbow block ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVgSuTE0OByqAvQEMC1aUxwhHbAR-jpkMMDRNSBPxh5i_uQqKr13ctw7eZCPVVCbbHpZH-pMLs80RSflJ8mz17wVaKB57XZp-rD6mr5hyphenhyphenVv6KIIYgkCT96kh9yzDwkSs-m8ZNA8FLkEepv/s1600/42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVgSuTE0OByqAvQEMC1aUxwhHbAR-jpkMMDRNSBPxh5i_uQqKr13ctw7eZCPVVCbbHpZH-pMLs80RSflJ8mz17wVaKB57XZp-rD6mr5hyphenhyphenVv6KIIYgkCT96kh9yzDwkSs-m8ZNA8FLkEepv/s320/42.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It wasn't as fiddly as I thought it would be, though I have to say, I appreciated my <a href="http://www.thepickledishpatch.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=50_138&products_id=1334">LED Lightbox/pad</a> immensely when laying all the pattern pieces out!! Thanks to <a href="http://www.thepickledishpatch.com/">Vicki of Pickledish Patch</a> for making them available!!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have sewn together all the pieces for this (middle) row, all but including this block in there, so I'll get that put together before I show this row in it's loveliness *grin*. This leaves me with three blocks left to make, the friendship block, the sewing block, and the <strike>'chair'</strike> possibly wine and cheese (or working out/exercise - I really enjoy it while I'm doing it ... it's just getting me there, or making the time where I struggle!) block. Here's hoping I get some blocks prepped and done in the next few days!</div>

That's two 'Some Kind of Wonderful' sewing bag and needlebook sets I've made for others ... should really make one of my own, lol!<br />
I was glad to hear that Melody liked all these goodies - trolling through her blog was fun! It allowed me to get to know her a bit better and figure out that pretty much anything I like, she will too :) Perfect match! ... Sooo looking forward to when we will (hopefully) get to meet in March at next year's <a href="http://letsgetstitched.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/announcing-melbourne-2014.html">Lets Get Stitched</a> gathering in Melbourne!!!<br />
<br />
... So sorry I haven't posted for so long!! I will try to update again soon as I have a few more 'B.F.F.' BOM blocks finished and another SKoW block & row done!! </div>
<div>
I haven't done a lot yet, but it's nice to start a new stitchery project!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I do still have a few (well, four) more blocks of my Some Kind of Wonderful quilt to make up, but I decided to splurge this week and purchase my very first light box!!! Until now I've been able to get by without one, but the final few blocks have just too many small pieces to position ... along with wanting to start Leanne Beasley's latest Vignette BOM, that I decided I had enough reason to reward myself with one. Come this time next week (I hope!!), I'll be putting together my last few SKoW blocks with some 'light' help *giggle*.<br />

I was planning to post about my Christmas in July items, both received and sent, yesterday ... and I caught someone's post ... then again, now, I've been sitting on Blogger for the last 2 hours just browsing through, reading loads of posts, both CIJ related and not *giggle* ... <i>Just post already L</i>!!!<br />

So, Tuesday afternoon, when I picked up my parcel from the post office, to say my interest was piqued - what the heck might be in this tiny parcel?!! ... I was a good girl & placed it on the top shelf of one of my bookshelves to keep my curiosity curtailed ... and on Thursday morning, once the little one had left for school with her grandparents (they work at her school so it is often easier for them to just take her in some mornings), I went and pulled it out to open ... and open ... and open ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

... I wonder if she knew of my status as a 'sneak'?!! (my poor partner Anthea didn't find out her items were from me until after asking Cheryll ... oops!) *giggle* ... FIVE layers of packaging, you can just imagine what what going through my head, lol!<br />
<br />
As soon as I opened the last layer though, I could barely speak for the gorgeousness in my little parcel!! Six precious 'Danish' seed bead ornaments ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUZM2biBlG30VmJtHqZVud_i3B0NpoNGGQdT3yWkI30tuinpZywgIapcm-ee6EHpSBopkJQYLW4iOUadwsiu0lGZrxDG5se8kkRwgCFCOlRJiYmwiZdhqJYITfqxDNgxznW7E0EcDv-WbQ/s1600/CIJ+baubles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUZM2biBlG30VmJtHqZVud_i3B0NpoNGGQdT3yWkI30tuinpZywgIapcm-ee6EHpSBopkJQYLW4iOUadwsiu0lGZrxDG5se8kkRwgCFCOlRJiYmwiZdhqJYITfqxDNgxznW7E0EcDv-WbQ/s400/CIJ+baubles.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Each one more gorgeous and delicate than the next! To say I am in awe of Simone's talent would be an understatement!! I am in LUV!!!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If I had to choose a favourite, it would have to be that delicate angel - stunning!! But to be honest, they are all so precious!! They will definitely be going away in my glory box, only to poke their heads out for the Christmas tree each year ... too special to risk anything happening to them, especially with small fingers who are just as transfixed by their beauty, lol! ... Can you tell how much I love these?! *wink*<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
* * * * * * * * * * * * *</div>
So, if you've been by <a href="http://hibiscus-stitches.blogspot.com.au/">Anthea of Hibiscus Stitches</a>' blog, you will already have seen the items I sent to her. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, although I had thankfully gotten all the stitcheries done by the end of last week, I ended up finishing them all over the course of last weekend ... nothing like getting things done last minute! Thankfully Australia Post was feeling helpful and my Express Post bag arrived Wednesday afternoon, ready for opening on Thursday. Yay!!<br />
<br />
First up was the lovely <a href="http://www.cookiesandcreamcraft.com.au/categories/patterns/wall-hangings-tablerunners-cushions/among-the-holly-from-gail-pan-designs.html">'Among the Holly' table runner</a>, designed by the lovely <a href="http://gailpandesigns.typepad.com/">Gail Pan</a>.<br />

Then I got the <a href="http://www.accuquilt.com/go-baby-fabric-cutter.html">GO! baby</a> out ... despite winning this from a giveaway <a href="http://dawnhaydesigns.blogspot.com.au/">Dawn</a> was giving end of 2011, I admittedly haven't pulled it out until then (and only to use a die that I purchased second-hand from <a href="http://joypatch.blogspot.com.au/">Joy</a>!) ... and cut out 24 1" hexi's.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It took me most of Sunday to sew these all together, EPP-style, to get a long thin panel of hexagons all sewn together ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

After a little more piecing, sewing, quilting, more sewing, a little teasing, and then some more sewing, lol, it was soon past 3am and I had this little beauty from <a href="http://www.thebirdhouse.typepad.com/">Natalie Bird</a>'s <a href="http://patchworksplus.com.au/products/Tis_the_Season-763-57.html">'Tis the Season' pattern book</a> ...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I threw myself off a tad when I realised that I'd cut down the stitcheries to 4 6/8" squares! Thankfully I found a darling little tutorial explaining how to calculate how much fabric you need to make the flying geese, using a fabulous new-to-me technique <a href="http://www.connectingthreads.com/tutorials/Flying_Geese-Make_em_fast-two_more_methods__D16.html">HERE</a> (I used the first technique). They came together really quickly after that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was so glad to hear that Anthea was happy with her gifts! As soon as I got her information from Cheryl, I sat down and read through her entire blog with a pen & pad of paper next to me so I could jot down some ideas of what she liked ... turns out our tastes are pretty similar, especially when it comes to designers!!</div>

<b>Table Runners ...</b><br />
<br />
A little while ago <a href="http://quiltedhugsandothernonsense.blogspot.com.au/">Sue</a> ran a Charm Square Table Runner Swap, and I can finally show this. My partner made me a fabulous runner out of 'Farmers Market' fabric ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEN8-XSA1paDvceB9NtxNlCjdcs9Fonle-R5yrfbWRv906XobvNRyS81OoUXCTSfbSauW5pR_trCGcgXorGDPSJvH1y6P9LOdEbIF7zO4gW4w7gQjh9XYjDn4aEHsSbMcAseYxt5EYmk1X/s1600/CSTR+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEN8-XSA1paDvceB9NtxNlCjdcs9Fonle-R5yrfbWRv906XobvNRyS81OoUXCTSfbSauW5pR_trCGcgXorGDPSJvH1y6P9LOdEbIF7zO4gW4w7gQjh9XYjDn4aEHsSbMcAseYxt5EYmk1X/s400/CSTR+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
... and I made her a runner out of the 'La Belle Fleur' range ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_oA7CNGMh_eFTcJ2iKoxvJxWT4QlKWQmIKMAlgVv5qXtmC3itY1Zgu5Sh9Ury0svBWcvl0UmtwAh2mIgVflXeRuv6o6eKSijfb6AclmrXGcIOlJQ0Ue2HukuA84q-GR_YRV4nTrcEZzzE/s1600/CSTR2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_oA7CNGMh_eFTcJ2iKoxvJxWT4QlKWQmIKMAlgVv5qXtmC3itY1Zgu5Sh9Ury0svBWcvl0UmtwAh2mIgVflXeRuv6o6eKSijfb6AclmrXGcIOlJQ0Ue2HukuA84q-GR_YRV4nTrcEZzzE/s400/CSTR2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I thought I would try my hand at a pieced backing which I think turned out pretty well ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkgiWpwyMQSmt18rmpFZb6z-STIRQYLLj6yauopE2kM8lbbV5cN_kPG5FsPcHOzSvVArsAw0WMY4EkiJzIIP1QbtzbY6vKJAE7trmMkD-bZg-gtyqcdkEoE3Av7WLqQE8cZrSeR3voBD4L/s1600/CSTR3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkgiWpwyMQSmt18rmpFZb6z-STIRQYLLj6yauopE2kM8lbbV5cN_kPG5FsPcHOzSvVArsAw0WMY4EkiJzIIP1QbtzbY6vKJAE7trmMkD-bZg-gtyqcdkEoE3Av7WLqQE8cZrSeR3voBD4L/s400/CSTR3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Apparently, when she opened up the parcel her 14 yr old daughter swooped in and tried to claim it as her own, lol!, so I guess I did something right since they both like it *yay*.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've also finished off another table runner since then, in the 'Eva' fabric line. Back at the Let's Get Stitched retreat in March, there were quite a few ladies who purchased some of this fabric and, though I wasn't entirely in love with it then, I certainly am now!! Although it is only a 'top' so far (I haven't found the *right* fabric to back it with, lol!) I am looking forward to this being one of my first items to go in a glory box of sorts for when I get married. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLvLJ9VI-I5WOdFpayKBdLgHeIhtjnWDO-8AjSJMCLDNyDjwB0ovA-FqlASvpfEeR2wuLlaJxRItY4Zg0GyWq7e-XaZXAiRwlLNja1l6YZRqBC2hOrEtBsiGFMOxAwhMXo1hvsuAeq84Ct/s1600/Eva+TR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLvLJ9VI-I5WOdFpayKBdLgHeIhtjnWDO-8AjSJMCLDNyDjwB0ovA-FqlASvpfEeR2wuLlaJxRItY4Zg0GyWq7e-XaZXAiRwlLNja1l6YZRqBC2hOrEtBsiGFMOxAwhMXo1hvsuAeq84Ct/s400/Eva+TR.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have always loved purples and pinks with white, and I am loving the addition of the lime green to this combination!!</div>
<br />
<b>Iron cord Covers ...</b><br />
<br />
I've also managed to put together a couple (well, three, but the third is not yet finished ... possibly because it will be for me, haha!) of iron cord covers from a tutorial by <a href="http://thehouseonthesideofthehill.blogspot.com.au/">Melody</a>. [When I find the direct link, I'll add it ... I know she offered it only just this year!!] ... I used a couple of <a href="http://www.elefantz.com/">Jen's</a> letters, from her recently released <a href="http://www.elefantz.com/2013/07/shabby-roses-monogram-sampler-for-you.html">Shabby Roses Monogram Sampler</a> [available for free <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/user/1146564/pattern-store">HERE</a> in her Craftsy shoppe], to embellish, and make them a touch more personal for the two ladies I gave them too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaiXQtkOu57Ort2dcgrseTdmS0hXnf71WEC-NAM66Cx7aZM2ujkPpbu6Znc81Z1HcJzZnEJ1Og8mRN-yCY5l8Buc1jscKIu_8Tu0K85C-pp6KaoqCbjYEsZcLzCHbN_o7bTGchJDZ-Rggr/s1600/Iron+cord+covers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaiXQtkOu57Ort2dcgrseTdmS0hXnf71WEC-NAM66Cx7aZM2ujkPpbu6Znc81Z1HcJzZnEJ1Og8mRN-yCY5l8Buc1jscKIu_8Tu0K85C-pp6KaoqCbjYEsZcLzCHbN_o7bTGchJDZ-Rggr/s400/Iron+cord+covers.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Cross-Stitch Flashback</b><br />
<br />
For many years before I got involved with patchwork and quilting, I LOVED to pull out a cross-stitch pattern and just stitch to my heart's content. In fact, I was chatting to a long-ago-luv the other night and he actually asked me if I'm still doing the cross-stitch I used to do (crazy, since we haven't even seen each other for over 8 years!!!).<br />
<br />
Two weeks ago I pulled out a large angel pattern (Finished size : 14 x 12in) I had tucked away. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdKbSZZn3XcFekGgqXqDEZtD8BoXHc5gDlCuFx0x-XMQ6rCnBiNRwK0ZcPHDpy_5TS7nd3m9UPPYqhy0Djox_2Zgl7HlQK9uZ-JLoazMDUdgLdxN8CYOte54xNIpWbv677tLmI_5K6Icd/s1600/Angel+xs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="292" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdKbSZZn3XcFekGgqXqDEZtD8BoXHc5gDlCuFx0x-XMQ6rCnBiNRwK0ZcPHDpy_5TS7nd3m9UPPYqhy0Djox_2Zgl7HlQK9uZ-JLoazMDUdgLdxN8CYOte54xNIpWbv677tLmI_5K6Icd/s400/Angel+xs.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Working on 28HPI even weave ... this would be her skirt.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Although I enjoyed it, and would love to finish her ... I much prefer stitcheries and sewing to this these days. Something nice for a change though.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Some Kind of Wonderful (SKoW)</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And finally, some progress on my SKoW 'My Favourites' quilt. I managed to find the image of a slice of Pavlova that I thought would translate well to needle-turn appliqué, and went from there for a block to replace the cupcakes block in the original quilt design.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDRrM4LAyFcIQF66FX4BlX9ttLPSkHMG5uQvVtl-DX_axJRq2dUbbLlm1ZbjhEXbyZzyY2hPB1GMuFq-wHm3OEY_Vc5JTQi-KbDICgzpkzbEJubKs22X9DqBEE_JdpI_d2fXJdL86yXhlg/s1600/SKoW+pav.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDRrM4LAyFcIQF66FX4BlX9ttLPSkHMG5uQvVtl-DX_axJRq2dUbbLlm1ZbjhEXbyZzyY2hPB1GMuFq-wHm3OEY_Vc5JTQi-KbDICgzpkzbEJubKs22X9DqBEE_JdpI_d2fXJdL86yXhlg/s400/SKoW+pav.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">** THIS was what I was working on during this past Friday Night Sew In.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
The Pavlova (white), cream (cream), and mango & kiwifruit slices (orange & green respectively) are appliquéd, while I stitched in the kiwi fruit seeds (lazy daisy stitches) and the passionfruit pulp (satin stitch). I'm quite impressed with how I've been able to translate the original image (left) with needle and thread.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have also managed to take these ... </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am VERY happy to have these two rows completed. And with only four blocks to go, I am hoping I will have the next three rows put together in the next few months!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
* * * * * * * * * </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly, as I'm hoping I've got this up in time for my Mum to show my Grandad this post before she returns home from her holiday, this is what Dad's been having fun making over the last week ... a platform for the mulcher, and a trailer to go on the back of the ride-on lawnmower to transport the palm fronds from around the block TO the platform (which is WAY too heavy to move on a regular basis!!).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I do have a few other items I have made, or am nearing the end on, but those will have to wait for their time to be shown as they are swap items ... Now, back to the studies & then off to clean the house before Mum gets home. Have a great week!!!</div>

Well, the unit I was stressing over is finally done and dusted ... and I've passed. Not with flying colours ... barely scraped by in comparison to some of my other units ... but I successfully passed and that's what matters!! I'll post some photos of the things I was doing later in the week ... well, if I remember, lol!<br />

But anyhoo, I am not here to discuss my studies right now, I am here to say ... I have finished making all of my overdue swap blocks from ... *cringe* ... last year ...</div>

Yes, I know. Bad swapper ... I am trying to change that.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First step - complete all swap blocks from swaps last year. And because I am so late, I ended up making two blocks for each partner instead of just the required one.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last weekend I finished two stars in pastel florals for Chantelle S (top), and two blocks in orange & neutrals for Mary C (bottom). These blocks all went in the mailbox last Tuesday.</div>

It feels SOOOOO good to get these all finished, and either sent or ready to be sent! I now have only 3 remaining swaps to complete, two of which are current, and the other I am waiting to find out who I am to be swapping with. I want to keep sewing right now, I almost don't want to go to bed!!</div>

I have an exam on Monday (which I am stressing about), and a pretty huge assignment due Sunday week ... so I probably won't be around next week either. It will be lovely to be able to just sit and catch up on what y'all are doing - this week though, that joy should really be put on hold.<br />

I have been getting over a throat infection the last couple of weeks too, which has been unpleasant, and not at all conducive to being able to focus on assignments ... but, I've realised that just 15mins of sewing, on my most stressed out of days, will help me decompress a little and refocus my attention off all those terrible what-ifs.<br />

So, what have I gotten up to over the last couple of weeks?<br />
<br />
Well, I've finished off both the pincushion ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

and bag that have been sitting in their box, all cut up, patiently waiting for me to put them together ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNqQt6exOeER0zoODME3TS3xXtoDIZdtXOrHcScXlwDQ65K4q8GV3j94f7TPj6givDT8B_nnZ8lHRayuZkQM37x519Io6h5Se1228jfN-KXHAefJfiDHqxbTSMOvXfAaEE8xx7FqrfWG9N/s1600/SKoW+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNqQt6exOeER0zoODME3TS3xXtoDIZdtXOrHcScXlwDQ65K4q8GV3j94f7TPj6givDT8B_nnZ8lHRayuZkQM37x519Io6h5Se1228jfN-KXHAefJfiDHqxbTSMOvXfAaEE8xx7FqrfWG9N/s320/SKoW+bag.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I've also done a little stitchery (TTS blocks). Three are finished now, just working on the fourth ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg76vkyl7hOqP8OMMcwcaVxiqpvqYd4QCA4uKl9Q0iiljebFCyzMe8kn8B6mhPHkbZfSQTiLsPmRanzXbcoMmemC5pkVYn_UjYoFn2kLzpc87vBtjc7dASMywJg5NNs5nSiSYNzNB9xfkRS/s1600/TTS+blocks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg76vkyl7hOqP8OMMcwcaVxiqpvqYd4QCA4uKl9Q0iiljebFCyzMe8kn8B6mhPHkbZfSQTiLsPmRanzXbcoMmemC5pkVYn_UjYoFn2kLzpc87vBtjc7dASMywJg5NNs5nSiSYNzNB9xfkRS/s320/TTS+blocks.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And finally, last night I sandwiched and quilted the table runner for my swap partner. I actually finished off another one earlier ... unfortunately I decided that I was too in love with the fabrics to give it away, and was unable to find another charm pack in the same range ... so, this second one was born. I also had to wait a couple of weeks to get some more batting, after I realised too late that I'd run out and already divvied up my budget for that fortnight. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IR3lI-igHIaJ8MPXZJLtDO7Au5pLxyBTB7ozLqQgYMbxMIIzucoTXsTLyx6II2DwGtcCKwYCh83-YHSDFvTkjgtB7pOwYuO7AsANTxmtr-RmFbxKQ_Ezno9s-jzoQARy0WxzWmkPj5Im/s1600/tablerunner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1IR3lI-igHIaJ8MPXZJLtDO7Au5pLxyBTB7ozLqQgYMbxMIIzucoTXsTLyx6II2DwGtcCKwYCh83-YHSDFvTkjgtB7pOwYuO7AsANTxmtr-RmFbxKQ_Ezno9s-jzoQARy0WxzWmkPj5Im/s320/tablerunner.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The backing is pieced, and all that is left to do is attach the binding. Unfortunately, this will not be finished until my last assignment is submitted, but I have a few extra items in mind to add to my wonderfully patient partner. <br />
<br />
I am really looking forward for this week to be over - though, admittedly, I could use all the time available in order to get this assignment done!! As long as it passes I will be happy - but I need to at least pass!! ... Then, I can get stuck into organising & cleaning my room (I've booked in my BF to help me go through it ... well, to keep me on task!!) and then I have several sewing projects I want to get both finished and started. Enjoy your week!!Larissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06366510866652989740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866921873972527586.post-77784347620714355602013-04-21T00:24:00.000+09:302013-04-21T00:24:34.599+09:30Friday Night Sewing with FriendsThe last two Friday nights I have enjoyed the delightful company of a group of sewists .. sewers (?) ... people-who-love-to-sew like myself, who all enjoy the company of others when getting their crafty on, all thanks to the darling Gail. She decided to start up a FB page where we could all hang out each Friday night as we stitch/knit/sew to our hearts content, and for the last two Fridays (since it began), the fingers were flying - in more ways than one *wink*.<br />

</tbody></table>
The first week I began working on a table runner pattern I found on <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/">moda's bakeshop</a>. It's called <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/02/vernas-cutting-garden-tablerunner.html">'Verna's Cutting Garden Tablerunner' by Julie Geiger</a>. I was able to get together the centre blocks, though I still haven't decided on the layout yet. This is what I've come up with thus far; a lovely twist on the classic <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-9qG-XZTJM">fencerail block</a>. I am using a charm pack of <a href="http://www.craftumi.com.au/detail.asp?id=58479">'Eva'</a> by Basic Grey for moda.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
During the week, I was able to finish off the first 'Seasons of ...' block by Wendy B (and Dawn). I did show a progress image last post, but here it is in all it's glory. I decided on a chain stitch outlining the portions on the umbrella, and then a daisy chain stitch around the bottom to emphasise the 3D effect (and to give it an extra interesting & pretty finish) - the idea for which I got from an <a href="http://www.elefantz.com/2013/03/show-tell-friday-giveaway-and-sneak-peek.html">old post of Jenny of Elefantz</a>.<br />

And last night (Friday ... though as I write this the clock has already clicked over to Sunday...), I finished off my nineteenth SKoW block ... the cat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZ6QBqe3iw3YcWmvAMpKBs0XVaKLDaAgaQUCOspQNSQLC3Y7ZfDOAtL5lcGw6A1yw1KllvppFdulSPClolhcH-rrhvAwd0a5zYuGO55GbcA-qWYJRp717jelrWIwaq1FQc8Sv95gDf_CF/s1600/FNSI2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUZ6QBqe3iw3YcWmvAMpKBs0XVaKLDaAgaQUCOspQNSQLC3Y7ZfDOAtL5lcGw6A1yw1KllvppFdulSPClolhcH-rrhvAwd0a5zYuGO55GbcA-qWYJRp717jelrWIwaq1FQc8Sv95gDf_CF/s400/FNSI2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Though I had almost completed the needle turn (excepting the name tag & nose) earlier in the week, I finished her off last night. This leaves me with five blocks left to complete.<br />
<br />
What are my next stitchery projects ... you know, since my WIP pencil case (yes, I still keep all my stitchery works in progress in a large A4 size pencil case ... one day I will get around to Fee's project bag!!)?!<br />
<br />
I have the next two 'Season's of ...' blocks drawn up ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqAb0fBodT-ilmhQyUnSY0TcxAq8FC1gyRZ8PRhGWTmTd2inWsQILy338AMZJbVf3bDweAkaxb9rwN_P0LVMKeDT3ev2_DceHUqAPOvaC40UhsWmYTgxvItgnLOhoYg1blKkDhy-bYQ4Y/s1600/FNSI6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqAb0fBodT-ilmhQyUnSY0TcxAq8FC1gyRZ8PRhGWTmTd2inWsQILy338AMZJbVf3bDweAkaxb9rwN_P0LVMKeDT3ev2_DceHUqAPOvaC40UhsWmYTgxvItgnLOhoYg1blKkDhy-bYQ4Y/s400/FNSI6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
And four TTS blocks. The project for this month's SAL is the TTS 'Bon Noel' Wallhanging. I haven't completely narrowed down which blocks I will be using, but I think I have it down to ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOmkjKk-17FpUuY1UfQcqwkejnwDgYDPf5tOFe1LsfiluhIediHopAm-buTNyJs68ZlbQmxez1ixOL7cfmJiMcVx_KMP7y7OBzq49RTuLpwwQWlDvD_Gya5rZAneHKT8u66vmQma_rfc-o/s1600/FNSI5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOmkjKk-17FpUuY1UfQcqwkejnwDgYDPf5tOFe1LsfiluhIediHopAm-buTNyJs68ZlbQmxez1ixOL7cfmJiMcVx_KMP7y7OBzq49RTuLpwwQWlDvD_Gya5rZAneHKT8u66vmQma_rfc-o/s320/FNSI5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
... either of the 'right' designs on the left; the top left design in the middle; and the bottom left design on the right. I have switched the angel & words around on the bottom left design in comparison to that in the book to even out the 'look' of the hanging. I think this one will be going in either the glory or gift box.<br />
<br />
Already I'm looking forward to next Friday ... but before then, I have two textiles projects to complete by Monday, a Art History assignment to finish, and another of each to begin before the week is out ... Boy is this week going to be a doozy!!!Larissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06366510866652989740noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866921873972527586.post-64455893771792540112013-04-08T12:25:00.001+09:302013-04-08T12:25:09.530+09:30Belated FNwF show & some other finishesLast Friday was this month's FNwF (Friday Night with Friends) evening, and although I started late, I did manage to get a few items done. <br />
<br />
I finished off (hand)sewing down the binding on the table runner I began earlier in the year as a thankyou gift for my daughter's childcare teacher from last year (yes, SUPER late, I know!) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMjDzQ-adf-a3kB5N0tiCiS4aqO1RxxHE9ZGTLTSNYdNglXFaINkvv5UV7G-8JBsoIZ9RyMPsuKdk-o06bVDCPzBGAbdp15btMFLI-7adbQGZrSvdZ4Q_amXlR5WPAR_qcSwqEky-3ZwQc/s1600/Table+runner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMjDzQ-adf-a3kB5N0tiCiS4aqO1RxxHE9ZGTLTSNYdNglXFaINkvv5UV7G-8JBsoIZ9RyMPsuKdk-o06bVDCPzBGAbdp15btMFLI-7adbQGZrSvdZ4Q_amXlR5WPAR_qcSwqEky-3ZwQc/s400/Table+runner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now all it needs is a wash & to make some 3D flowers to go on opposing corners ... or maybe I'll just skip the flowers and just give it to her like this (??... hmmm ...). I took inspiration from some table runners that Rhianon (@ <a href="http://rhianontaylor.blogspot.com.au/">The Nifty Stitcher</a>) made for Christmas gifts and shared on FB this past December. Thankfully she was happy for me to do this as I adore the ones she made!! The backing fabric is the same as the cream w/ blue flowers in the outer border. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
FMQing deets ... The white centre is divided into 8 squares, each quilted in a feathered design; the brown border has a loopy design with two different heights to the loops (1/2way & full); and the outer border has a continuous one-sided feather (using the brown border as the 'inner stem').</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When this was finished, I completed the remaining stitching on my SKoW tree block. Here is the finished block ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTNLKJdq8-OLd_fr8r20FI-J0-3MaNKrPr12UoKNjBR3AnGzZbIY2_RNUtI67OiNVkHs4dCtWmV8oYofVVfy0tDTiIy0sNr8kwTmi9JX8Egaz5qN8kDAqmRfbJqFFdq0FDQnoUiusYaNR1/s1600/Tree+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTNLKJdq8-OLd_fr8r20FI-J0-3MaNKrPr12UoKNjBR3AnGzZbIY2_RNUtI67OiNVkHs4dCtWmV8oYofVVfy0tDTiIy0sNr8kwTmi9JX8Egaz5qN8kDAqmRfbJqFFdq0FDQnoUiusYaNR1/s400/Tree+block.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Earlier in the week, I was also able to manage doing some sewing/stitching most days. I finished off my SKoW shoe block (stitchery & needle turn) ...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_y9B3me0g3AH3lSsFjo2p68tRK29Bmvh2bk91qGeEs6717CSU9sZwlTsmRgIlwk5XNNzPBeART40oSSg9ZhDIWb5uLyl0VO9EAgl7QRNW-H5yRFg88HYyfizXj3jM-2WK789ASty9Dc4t/s1600/shoe+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_y9B3me0g3AH3lSsFjo2p68tRK29Bmvh2bk91qGeEs6717CSU9sZwlTsmRgIlwk5XNNzPBeART40oSSg9ZhDIWb5uLyl0VO9EAgl7QRNW-H5yRFg88HYyfizXj3jM-2WK789ASty9Dc4t/s320/shoe+block.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
** I am using Sarah Fielke fabrics for this bag in her 'Pond' range, currently available at Spotlight. I have all the fabrics cut out for this bag now, ready to be put together; I just needed to get some Pellon yesterday, and I hope to have this finished and put together by the end of next week (I'm being realistic here, knowing how much uni I have to work on over the next few weeks!!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And last night, I even managed to start working on one of the stitchery designs being shared by <a href="http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com.au/">Wendy B</a> & <a href="http://dawnhaydesigns.blogspot.com.au/">Dawn</a> in their 'Seasons of" BOM. This pattern was shared <a href="http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/australia-day-gifts-that-well-just-keep.html">here</a>, and the following two<a href="http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/seasons-offree-bom-blocks-2-3.html"> here</a>. The next one, I am expecting in the next few days *wink*.</div>

This challenge has been running for the last couple of years and, although I didn't quite get one finished by the end of the challenge in 2011 (it was my first year of quilting and things just all got on top of me), I did finish one off last year which was sent through to one of our military personnel over seas as a part of the Aussie Hero Quilts group. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">This year they'll be quilting for two charities based in America (which is normal, though as International quilters, we also have the option of either sending over the top & backing to be finished off or donating to our own homegrown charity to alleviate costs of postage), Happy Chemo and Quilts Beyond Borders - two great charities. You could make one (or more) for each (or other groups here) and spread the love if you want.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: medium;">You can read more about the Challenge <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/hands2help-its-time-to-sign-up.html">here</a> and sign up at the same time. There will be a giveaway for folks who sign up by this Saturday night (30 March 2013, America time) and lots of giveaways at the end of the Challenge for those who participate!</span></div>

Last time I did, I was having a BLAST of a time at the Let's Get Stitched retreat in Adelaide. It was officially the BEST weekend I have had in YEARS!!!! I laughed so hard, I cried so very many times that I needn't have worried about working out if I'd even thought about it - the whole weekend was an ab workout & a half!!! Needless to say, I have every intention to get myself to the retreat next year being run in Melbourne in March (there is also a second one being run in New Zealand in October which I would love to go to, but I don't know that I will be able to make that one ... one day Michelle *wink*).<br />
<br />
So, apart from this ... and the super massive load of uni I've been working on ... I have been able to manage getting a fair bit of hand-sewing and stitching done...<br />

Before I go, here are some pictures I took while spending a little time with my (maternal) Granddad during my last evening in Adelaide (I had a late flight on Monday, so I spent the afternoon & early evening catching up with him with was lovely). These are sugar flowers he found, while going through some cupboards, that my Granny (his wife) made many many years ago! She was a very gifted cake decorator, making wedding and celebration cakes (for all occasions), and she must have made a whole bunch of extras that she tucked away to use .. and never did. She has unfortunately not been able to do any of her crafts (she also did lots of sewing, quilting, knitting etc) for quite some time now, and it is nice to see her handiwork last all these years later ... even *if* they are sugar flowers that are so old that they are no good to be consumed *wink*!! Some of these petals are just so delicate I would expect them to fall apart just by being touched - but they still don't!!!</div>

Thankyou to the four ladies who put their hands up to win a copy of this fabulous book! I know I said I was only giving away two copies, but I feel prompted to give each one of you lovelies a copy - so Congratulations Jen B (though I told you last night at bible study, lol!), Merri, Amanda P & Dawn!! I'll contact each of you soon, to determine the best way to get your copy to you. I hope it blesses you just as much, if not more, than Sarah Mae & Sally's words have (and will continue to) blessed my journey!!Larissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06366510866652989740noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866921873972527586.post-1137235672996179052013-02-05T11:45:00.000+09:302013-02-12T11:05:09.156+09:30'Desperate' Book Review (& Giveaway)<br />
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">As a single mother who has herself, gone back to university studies and rarely goes out to catch up with people (let alone meet new people), to say I have know what depression and desperation is like, is an understatement! (Thank God for the internet and all the lovely ladies I have met online!!!). So when Sarah Mae gave me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of her latest book <a href="http://desperatemom.com/">Desperate: Hope for the Mom who Needs to Breathe</a>, I jumped at the chance - in fact, I literally fell off my chair when I received her email to say that I was one of the lucky ones who would be receiving a copy of the ebook!!!</span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://desperatemom.com/">{Source}</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>This</b> is the book I wish was available back when I was in the midst of late night feedings, 24/7 nappies, and the 3am pacing of the halls that made me want to scream and cry myself while almost at the point of wondering why it was that Iâd so desperately wanted a child to begin with!!! </span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>This</b> is the book that, as a mother of an almost-5yr old, I read and find comfort in the reminder that Iâm not alone - and that there is one out there who is greater than I who can give me the strength to get through it all when things start to feel all too tough again; and that if I take the time to look, there are others out there who Heâs situated in my path, who can give me the advice and support He knows I need right at that moment in time.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><b>This</b> is the book I want to give to every new mother I know, whether brand new to motherhood, or a veteran to the calling who already has children ⊠and maybe even some whoâve been through it all and are enjoying the role of grandmother.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">Through the flow of each chapter, the journey between a mother of youngunâs (<a href="http://sarahmae.com/">Sarah Mae</a>) and her mentor (<a href="http://www.itakejoy.com/">Sally Clarkson</a>) plays out through personal letters which were exchanged, peppered within their words of wisdom, advice and encouragement. And with each chapter they offer bible studies and journal exercises that help you bring the principles and ideas theyâve discussed into your own life ⊠with a link (URL or QR code) to a video that just totally heightens the experience by bringing Sarah Mae & Sally right there with you, further discussing the ideas in each chapter!!</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; min-height: 14px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I love that it is written from âboth sides of the battle fieldâ - the mother right there in the thick of parenting three young children; and the mother whoâs come out of this stage and is enjoying (and dealing with) the years that follow, her children having grown and become young adults themselves. The love, respect and affection for each other between these ladies is refreshing, and their mutual love of God shines through each page. As they say in the introduction, </span></div>

<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I laughed, I cried ⊠I even wondered where theyâd hidden the cameras in my house at times; there was so much I can relate to! I underlined passages on at least 90% of the pages on my copy, and every time I go back over a chapter (yes, Iâve read it through a few times already!!), I get more out of it than I had done so previously ⊠This will definitely be one of those books I can see myself going back through time and time again over the years!!</span></div>

<div style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">And because I am so in love with this book, with its message of hope and the importance of community, <b>I want to offer a copy of this book to a couple of my readers</b>. I was really hoping to get onto the quilting for the table runner which has been sandwiched for the last week, but at this stage it looks like this wont be until tomorrow evening, as tomorrow (and through the weekend) needs to be focussed on an assignment.<br />
<br />
At least I had some hand-sewing to keep my hands occupied this morning *wink*.Larissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06366510866652989740noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866921873972527586.post-26180539113998929832013-02-03T21:33:00.001+09:302013-02-03T21:33:45.902+09:302013 Goals<br />
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">So, okay, 2013 ... <b>Feb</b> 2013 ⊠how time flies?!!!</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I'll spare you a rambling of my year just gone (mainly because its either already been blogged ... or its not worth mentioning), but needless to say, 2012 was *not* one of my best years, in terms of achieving goals or seeing the fulfilment of dreams.</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I have learnt that I really need to plan out my days & weeks better ... especially with the little one attending Preschool, 3 days a week, this year; and my desperate need to finally see some movement in the case of my university studies (I will be studying full time this year from March, rather than the part time ... spotty part-time ... the past few years have been). There are things that have become so darn stagnant, in regards to stuff that really *should* have been done years ago ... and there are some new goals and dreams that I wish to incorporate into the coming year.</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">I have decided that this year, my focus word will be ...</span></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://inspirationaldaily.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/love-inspirational-daily.jpeg?w=535&h=401" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://inspirationaldaily.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/love-inspirational-daily.jpeg?w=535&h=401" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://inspirationaldaily.wordpress.com/2012/05/16/there-is-only-one-happiness-in-life-love-and-be-loved-2/">{Source}</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">To love my Lord. To love my family. To love myself. To love those around me ... and to show this through action and deed.</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">... 100% better than I have over the past year *grin*!</span></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px; min-height: 19px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 16px;">
<span style="letter-spacing: 0.0px;">⊠And I have kept this in mind when determining my goals for the coming year (and yes, I am starting from February!)</span></div>
<br />

<li>Sell some of the excess *stuff* I have accumulated on ebay (or somewhere similar).</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Lots of goals, but I'm determined to be realistic about them, knowing that life happens ... and that God's plans may look very different from those above - I want to take <b>His</b> lead this year, but I also feel I need to have some idea of where I'm going.<br />
<br />
I will endeavour to post a quick update each month to 'check in' on my progress, as I need the accountability this <strike>*should*</strike> will provide.<br />
<br />
Anyone else feel like this past month has just flown by?!!!</div>
